ZaComments
ZaComments is a website with the goal of fully utilizing the power of users comments on the internet.
We all love comments on the internet! Who doesn't scroll down to the comment section after checking out anything on the internet thinking "I wonder what people think about what I just read or watched". And who doesn’t like commenting on something and seeing their comment reach the top?
But there's more to comments than just pure entertainment. Having a comment ranking system based on users votes opens the door for amazing other opportunities. But the problem is, I feel that comments value are underrated by today's networks. Even in Reddit whose commenting system is the most similar to that of ZaComments'. Comments are not used to their full potential. They are always treated like optional second class content on the internet. They're mostly used for discussions or for people to react to some other main content like a video, an article or a picture. While in fact, they are much more valuable than that. They represent a very precious commodity, users opinions, and if we add a voting factor to it, that makes them extremely invaluable.
And ZaComments goal is to fully exploit their value.
ZaComments is a website that's exclusively about comments and commenting. Where you can only do 2 actions; Comment on topics. And rate other people's comments.
And topics on ZaComments can be absolutely anything. From people like celebrities and movie characters, to movies, to events, to abstract things like love, to products like cereal or deodorant. Absolutely anything! Because topics are user created and they simply consist of a text title and an optional picture.
There are 3 different powerful usages of topics in ZaComments. Allow me to use an example to illustrate how they could be used. And for that, I'll choose none other than Beer!
The 3 potential usages are 1- Knowing what's the best comment ever said about anything 2- Allowing the users to review anything 3- Having surveys where users get to vote between a set of options to determine the most popular choice of anything.

Knowing what's the best thing that's ever been said about beer. By having a topic just called "Beer" And allowing users to comment on it and vote on other people's votes. Users will easily be able to read the what's the best/funniest/smartest comment that's ever been said about beer. Currently, there is no network that provides that info. In Youtube, users' comments would be scattered between beer related videos, and especially that youtube does not show comments sorted by votes anymore. If you search for #beer in Twitter You will see what people are currently saying about beer. Even in reddit, if you search for beer, you will find posts related to beer, probably articles, images or videos. But that's not what we're looking for. We want to know what the best comment that's ever been said about beer. We all wonder about what's the best comment that's ever been said about X all the time. And ZaComments would be able to answer that question

Now if the topic were to be a bit more specific, like "BudWeiser Beer", we will find that the comment sections would open an opportunity to something more than just the funniest comment, it will actually contain reviews about that product. Users providing their personal user experience/opinion about BudWeiser. Now the possibilities for that usage are endless and extremely valuable. In popular shopping sites like Amazon or eBay, you will find user reviews only on products that are sold on those websites. But what if I want to review products in a more abstract way? Like I want to know if gas grills are good. Or I want to review McDonalds or the new subway sandwitch. Where can I find a centralized source for that info? In ZaComments, you can easily have a topic called McDonalds' food. And the users comments will be the honest opinions about what people think about McDonalds food.
-
Finally, utilizing ZaComments in running surveys and collecting votes. Having the comments votable and sorted by votes opens the opportunity to collect users opinions on what they think is the best X in a very easy way. Imagine a topic titled "What's the best compact size car?". Users will naturally start commenting with things like "Honda Civic" or "Toyota Corolla" and start voting on them. The potential for that is huge. Now we can have users creating all kinds of surveys "What's the best Aftershave", "What's the healthiest fast food restaurant" and the data that will come out of such surveys are invaluable.
That pretty much summarizes how I designed ZaComments to fully utilize the power of comments. I encourage you to check it out and let me know what you think
So let the commenting begin! And may the best comment reach the top!
